Driven To Distraction

It happens in my professional work, in my non-profit work, and even in my businesses. The attractive and constant allure to complicate things.

It appears that we humans love to add layers of complexity, meaning, interpretation, and embellishment to everything we create. From business systems to government programs to products, we sure know how to make things more complicated than they need to be.

Its as if we do it to prove to ourselves that we are smart or something. Yet it is the ability to concentrate one’s efforts is what leads us to success. Its not about being fancy or clever.

I had stumbled across an excellent article called Don’t Be Stupid, Keep Your Management Philosophy Simple which reminds us that it is good for business to keep focused, to do what you are good at, and to avoid being driven to distraction.
